I had no clue that this book was part of a series; this was the 5^thinstallment to the Southern Heroes series which marked the end. This was also my very first book by Ms Heard. While I loved her writing style, I just couldn’t connect with the characters like I wanted to.

Zac has lost his life partner, not only his partner from work but his partner in life. He holds onto her throughout the story which I loved so much, but it pulled at my heart a bit. Zac is a relationship guy but at the moment he is still grieving. 

Chloe is running from life in South Africa. She came to the states to try and forget the pain that she left when she came to the US. She is definitely not looking for a relationship until she meets the hunky police officer.

This book had a great love story and that is why I gave it a four, but I just could not connect with these characters. Which I am not going to bash anyone, it just wasn’t a book for me. Although, Zac had my heart and Chloe was fun. I’d say give it a try, what one doesn’t like may be the perfection someone else is looking for.
