Sometimes bad isn’t good enough…
On the outside, Lyle Tarpin is a clean-cut Hollywood actor whose star is on the rise. Inside, he’s battling his own demons, shunning relationships and finding solace in the arms of a string of anonymous women paid very well for their discretion.
But when he’s photographed in a compromising position by an over-eager reporter, the only way to save his career is to say that the woman he was with is his fiancĂ©e. And now Lyle has to play a very public game with the only woman who’s ever managed to get under his skin.
Struggling waitress Sugar Laine agrees to spend one night with Lyle—but only because she’s desperate to save her family home. She never expects that a night of passion will turn into a pretend engagement … or that the heat between them will blossom into love.
But sometimes love has a price.
And now the only question is—can Lyle and Sugar afford to pay it?
So swoon....what is it about tortured alpha males that makes me so weak?I loved Lyle. I will say that this is the first time I've read about an alpha male, doing what Lyle was doing that caused him to meet Laine.
There is some deep dark secrets, some family secrets and a lot of heat. I think that this was just a really good story. So much these days the stories all kind of run together, you read one you read them all. Not this though. Its really unique.
Sugar Laine is written as kick ass as her name. She's strong and driven. After she loses the people she loves tragically she pulls herself up by her bootstraps. I think a character like Sugar is very important for women today to read. In this economy a lot of us are in her situation and we have to do what we have to do. Her strength and perseverance is awe-inspiring. I love that even though she is doing what she is doing for money, she never loses her dignity or sense of self.
The supporting characters in this book are awesome as well. i love when a book has side characters that I care about and want to know more about. I think The aunt need her own book. I want to know her origins.
The romance between Lain and Lyle was confusing at first. She was kind of a cock tease. I understood, but still poor patient Lyle.
When they did come together though.... WHEW!!!
Give this a try, its different. Its good.
