Phoenix /fēniks/: (in classical mythology) a unique bird inhabiting the Arabian Desert that burned itself on a funeral pyre before rising from the ashes with renewed youth to live through another cycle.
This isn’t mythology, it’s war, and Hendy is left in the hands of Hell’s cruelest gatekeepers.
His team is killed before his very eyes, and despite his efforts to save them, he’s captured and subjected to merciless torture—losing virtually every piece of his identity but his pulse.
After his rescue, he returns home from Afghanistan, saddled with facing the daunting task of healing his physical scars as well as the invisible ones—his emotional demons.
Dr. Presley Cole isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. Embarking on a new journey, she makes it her mission to prove to Hendy that his life isn’t over; that he’s worthy of love.
Because sometimes even a phoenix needs help to rise…
Out of the Ashes.
What a wonderful concept for a book. It's military but the back end of military. When the come home. How their life goes on. When they are injured and their life changes to something that's opposite of what they were.
When Henly comes back from being presumed dead, when actually he's a POW that was severely tortured, he's dealing with a lot. He's got doctors of all kinds treating him and prescribing meds. Some for his body and some for his head. Until he meets a new kind of doctor....
Presley is a chiropractor and naturopath, so u can assume she doesn't get the respect she wants and is often thought of sort of a witch doctor. But her clients soon realize she's legit and helps them greatly.
Henly is about to have his life turn around.....at least he wants it too. He likes Presley. More than likes. He likes her mind, her heart and her beauty. But she's sorta engaged. So that's a problem. He never pursues another mans woman. But he's so drawn to her. And she doesn't look at his war injuries as something pitiful or gross. He can't stop seeing her or thinking about her. He's under her care for six months.....wonder what could happen? She may end up fixing more than his injuries?
Fantastic book! Fantastic writing! Fantastic characters! What more could you want. LOVED this book so much. Such an amazing take on war and SEALS.
Very highly recommend!!!
