Holy cow ... what did I just read?!?! Pure, unadulterated genius on a page is what. Keri Lake has done it again. She has taken words from a book and gripped me so hard that I could feel what was happening. Backfire is gripping, raw, dark, and rocked me to my core.
Jase had one heck of an upbringing. Neglect from his mother, abuse from his step-father and losing his grandmother and brother way too soon, life has been hard. Being tortured, he vowed to find his family's killer and make them pay for what they took away.
Lucy was a tough girl, always sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. Trouble finding Lucy, wherever she goes. She has video of something horrific that she witnessed and now she is wanted. They are hunting her down, and when they find her, she will pay with her life.
Jase won't let them happen. He is now part of the Underworld and has the hook-ups he needs to locate the garbage that forever changed his life. Meeting Lucy in an unconventional way, he knew there was something about her that interested him. He couldn't pin-point it until ... those eyes. He KNOWS those eyes. Those are the eyes of a girl that he once cherished.
Vowing to protect her, he rescued her from harms way. It appears as a kidnapping, but Jase is only trying to protect her and find out how she is connected in the involvement of losing his family.
Lucy loathes Jase, but she also lusts after him; constantly berating herself for secretly wanting him. Secretly wanting to know what it feels like to have him inside of her. But .. how can she like a killer? A rapist? A murderer? No ... Lucy will not cave, no matter how hot and compassionate he can be. No, she will not do that....or will she?
Keri Lake has the amazing ability to make you fall in love with the characters in her books. She writes magic. She writes drama filled turmoil. She pulls you in and retains a stronghold on your heart. It is hard to find an author that can grip you as hard as she does, throughout the entire book. Never a dull moment, always thrilling, always brilliant. If you are new to Keri Lake, please do yourself an enormous favor and pick up Backfire, as well as Ricochet.
