I don’t listen to Audio Books all that much but I have listened to a few and I have to say this one is close to the top of my fav’s. There are two reasons: the writing and the narrator.
The writing is just amazing. The depth of characters and the almost magical descriptions of the environment is just absolutely fantastic!!! The narrator is also amazing. His voice, going from high pitched when in Serwa’s voice to deep and demanding when doing Issa’s voice made me wonder if there was more than one narrator.
Issa and Serwa have major “jobs” being one of the chosen angels is nothing to be taken lightly. Issa, a tribal chieftain, and Serwa, a Guardian Angel, serve to help humankind. The fact that they are soul mates in every sense of the word just serves to make the story even better. Issa is a protector is the strongest sense of the word. Serra just wants to be with him and do her job.
The author’s description of, well, really everything is just amazing. The way she describes their sex….just WOW!!!! It’s not dirty really….just highly magical. When she described the four mouths of Issa on her - OMG!!
The only issue I had with this book was the timing. From the very beginning it seemed hard to figure out where we are in time. It starts at the very beginning like a historical book. Then goes to modern day NYC to then talking about their marriage and kids that were never mentioned and only mentioned once or twice. He talks about his age being extremely old but there’s no point of reference in the marking of time. That was my only disconnect but it doesn’t distract from the story.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book and I think you will to. Definitely one click and give this one a try. You won’t be sorry!!!

I was born and raised in Queens, NY, and I currently reside in Los Angeles, CA.
During my formative years I mainly expressed myself through art and music. Highlights include performing in the all-city Queens band as a saxophonist and copyrighting my own comic strip character. Later I was accepted in to a five year architecture degree program at the esteemed Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.
Unfulfilled with architecture alone, I found new artistic outlets in the performing arts at CMU, while simultaneously studying architecture. I choreographed and danced in dance shows, modeled in runway shows, and acted in short films and mainstage plays.
Determined to follow my passion for performance, I went straight from CMU to CalArts in Valencia, CA, where I earned an MFA in acting.
Everything I have learned - from my early years of drawing and music, to my architectural years of spacial planning and design, to my time at conservatory acting training - continues to feed the art that I create with each project that I’m involved in.
N. D. Jones lives in Maryland with her husband and two children. Having earned a M.A. in Political Science, she is a dedicated educator. She taught high school social studies for nine years. Currently, she is a professional development specialist with a local Maryland school system, working on increasing student achievement through teacher and administrator efficacy. N.D. is also a continuing education student who is pursuing her doctorate in education in Community College Leadership. A desire to see more novels with positive, sexy, and three-dimensional African American characters as soul mates, friends, and lovers, inspired the author to take on the challenge of penning such romantic reads. This novella was a great entry into the wacky world of writing. And I'm always honored when readers (and listeners) find enjoyment in my novels.
