Those people are called cops.
Well, one cop in particular.
A SWAT officer for the Kilgore Police Department, to be specific.
The first time Avery Flynn saw Derek Roberts, she was photographing him for the first annual Kilgore Police Department SWAT calendar. He was leaned back in his squad car, shirtless, and giving her a smile that was completely between them. A smile that hinted at what he wanted to do to her later.
When she scrounges up the courage to ask him out after the photo-shoot, he laughs in her face.
Well, screw you, too, Mr. February.
Derek Roberts never really paid attention to the photographer.
She was a mousy girl who dressed like a twelve-year-old girl. Her tight leggings, extra baggy Star Trek t-shirt denoting her a Klingon captain, and her surprisingly clean Chucks didn’t leave much of an impression.
Now, the outfit that she was in weeks after he rebuffed her? Yeah, now that caught his attention.
Too bad that happens when he’s trying to save her from what’s sure to be death thanks to an unhinged native Texan who’s convinced, she was the reason he lost his last chance at a million dollars.
When he tries to save her, she tells him she’d rather take a cattle prod to the forehead than go anywhere with him.
Sometimes love comes when you least expect it. Sometimes you fall in love with someone, even if you fight those feelings every step of the way. If it’s meant to be, then fate makes sure that your paths cross and you find each other, no matter the circumstance. If walls are put up to protect your heart, love will weasel it’s way in and tear those walls down.
Avery Flynn has been dealt a raw deal in this thing we call life. When everything seems to be crumbling around her, life throws another curve ball and knocks her down a few more pegs. Lord knows she needs some happiness in her life. She has always found Derek Roberts to be attractive and had the biggest crush on her. Problem is, he turns her down because she’s just way too young for his taste. She’s of age, but due to life and being held back a year, Derek can’t get passed the fact that she’s a senior in high school. With their lives intertwining, he finds himself around Avery quite often. Can he keep his distance and stick to his word? Or will Avery break down those walls of uncertainty?
Another great one for the books, from Lani Lynn Vale. As usual, she has given us another entertaining read. I love all of her series and this one certainly does not disappoint. Reward yourself and one-click today!
I think I’ve said this before but so far this book is my FAVORITE! I felt EVERYTHING in this book. It has a spectacular flow and I seriously couldn’t put it down!!
Avery has been through the wringer, but the kicker is she’s only a senior in high school. She’s lost so much in her young life but with all the loss she has learned to be independent and had to grow up really quick. Along with being great at school she is amazing behind the camera as well. While doing a shoot for the Kilgore PD she has to photograph a man she has had a crush on for a while but gets let down with a quickness.
Derek has always had an eye for Avery, but she is so young, and she is well protected by the ENTIRE police station and then some. Derek is cautious but keeps an eye out for her kind of like a big brother would do but his feelings he can’t seem to keep at bay.
There is so much to this story, while it warms your heart it will squeeze the crap out of it too. I honestly lost my shit in the first chapter…THE FIRST DAMN CHAPTER, Y’ALL. I loved everything about this book!! I am super excited to see what Ms Vale has in store for us next!!
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense and has a love for all things romance.
You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
